Nizamabad: The Union government sanctioned Rs 2 crore to Nizamabad city under Urban Forest Garden scheme to develop Sarangapur reserve forest as an urban forest.

District Collector Yogita Rana and forest officials visited Sarangapur reserve forest, Mallaram eco-tourism area, and Mosra and Chandur nurseries.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector Yogita Rana said that the Union government started ‘Urban Forest Garden’ scheme to protect the reserve forest from encroachments and provide pleasant atmosphere to urban people. She asked the officials to protect the area and grow diverse trees. Grow bamboo, set up herbal gardens, construct guest houses to attract the urban population and protect the birds and butterflies in the forest, she suggested.

Rana further said that as part of eco-tourism promotion programme, the Forest department was establishing ‘Nature Forest’ at Mallaram forest area. Already proposal to sanction Rs 1.02 crore was sent to Tourism Department for the project, she added.

As part of the programme, the Collector and forest officials visited Mosra nursery where the forest department was growing plantations in 25 acres and Haritha Haram nursery in eight acres. Later, they visited Chandur nursery where forest officials were growing saplings, herbal gardens and ne0-centre nurseries in 25 acres.
