Khammam: The representatives of All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) on Friday demanded the government reduce bus fares.

Speaking on the occasion, AIDWA Khammam division secretary Gattu Rama Devi said after Khammam Municipality was upgraded as Corporation, ‘Palle Velugu’ buses, which earlier passes through FCI and bypass road to Bhadrachalam and Sattupally, were now diverted through other route, covering three to four kilometres extra. The RTC was charging extra Rs three to Rs six from the passengers, she alleged.

Rama Devi said the RTC should not collect extra charges from the passengers since it diverted the route for its convenience. “The RTC is doing favour to the government by earning profits by collecting extra money from the poor people. The government itself must take the burden of extra charges for the welfare of the people,” she said.

The AIDWA leader demanded that the government should collect the same fare that was being charged earlier before diverting the bus route.

Later, AIDWA representatives submitted a memorandum to the Depot Manager Sugunakar and requested him to reduce the increased bus charges.

AIDWA district president Meharunnisa Begum, Bottu Padma, M Nagamani, P Ramya, K Amaravathi, P Nagasulochana and K Sarawathi were present along with others.
