Kinnerasani (Khammam): A little over 10 km north of highly-polluted Paloncha town, the much-awaited groundwork has begun to turn the picturesque Kinnerasani River, reservoir and the wild life sanctuary into a tourism hub.

With the Central Government agreeing to sanction funds for the beautification of the Kinnerasani project, the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) has called for designs from private architects to take up the works.

It may be mentioned here that National Institute of Transforming India (NITI) Aayog has released funds to the tune of Rs 3.23 crore for the renovation of the dilapidated cottages including the Addala Meda (glass house), and the introduction of boating facilities to complement the captivating beauty of the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across 634 sq km, at Yanambailu village. The NITI Aayog has also decided to construct a Budget Hotel as part of eco-tourism development project at an estimated cost of Rs 3.70 crore in coal town Kothagudem.

In this backdrop, the Infinity India Private Limited, an international architect consulting agency, secured the rights of providing design after the TSTDC had invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from companies willing to provide designs for the beautification of Kinnerasani. A two-member team - Anubhut Pataudi and Harika – of the company has inspected the Kinnerasani reservoir and its precincts to get first hand information.

Besides constructing 18 cottages in place of nine cottages that were blasted by the Maoists in 2001, the TSTDC has plans to introduce a vehicle safari in five-km circular track around Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary besides developing a trekking path.

Speaking to The Hans India, Tourism Officer Suman Chakravarthy said: “The government has almost finalised the proposals submitted by Infinity India Pvt Limited. The representatives of the Company started working to prepare the design from Saturday. After the design part is completed, the TSTDC will launch the works phase-wise.”

After introducing a 35-seater catamaran boat, the department has also pressed two speed boats – one each of six and eight seaters – into service following a huge response from the tourists.

The architects also visited the Haritha Bhavan located at Kothagudem Cross Roads where a 56-room Budget Hotel with all modern facilities was planned to construct.
