Warangal: In a bid to make modern technology to reach out to the needy, the Warangal Police Commissionerate has launched social media application ‘WhatsApp’ number for the benefit of citizens.At a programme held at the district police headquarters here on Saturday, Warangal city Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu launched the ‘WhatsApp’ number to help people under stress to reach out to the police in a speedy manner.
Speaking on the occasion, Sudheer Babu said the initiative was aimed at making the people as partners in maintaining law and order effectively under the Commissionerate limits. By using the social media applications like Facebook and WhatsApp, the police could reach out to the people to achieve people friendly policing.
The people could make use of the number: 94910-89257 to share information on law and order issues, accidents, traffic control. One could also use the number to seek police help in times of emergency. They could send photos, videos and text to the number.
The sender’s details would be kept secret, the Commissioner added. Sudheer Babu further informed that the number would be monitored round-the-clock by a separate wing. One police Sub-Inspector and four constables were employed specially to handle the complaints received on WhatsApp number.
For instance, if any woman was found being troubled by eve-teasers, the information could be sent to the number and immediately the information would be passed on to the ‘She Teams’ to deal with the culprits and to support the affected person, he explained. Hanamkonda ACP P Shoban Kumar and others were present.
