Hyderabad: Urdu is all set to regain its past glory, thanks to the initiatives of the TRS-led State government. This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali while addressing an elite gathering of journalists, scholars and literary personalities here on Saturday.

Earlier, he launched the second edition of ‘Urdu Media: Kal Aaj Kal’ written by chief editor of Gawah Urdu weekly Dr Syed Fazil Hussain Parvez at the Salar Jung Museum.

Mahmood Ali recalled the endeavour of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to promote Urdu, including poetry, at every level and realise the vision of reviving the Ganga-Jamuna culture that symbolised peaceful coexistence of all sections of society. He advised the newly-appointed VC of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), to come forward with mutual compassion to promote Urdu language and make Urdu medium students employable. He greeted Dr Parvez for the extensive research that had done for the 500-page work on Urdu media, which he said was a ‘ready-reckoner’ for educationists, students and historians.

MANUU Vice-Chancellor Dr Aslam Parvez said he would strive to make the university a fulcrum for the language and also ensure that the employment prospects for the students would get a boost. Priced at Rs 400, the book comprises 110 informative chapters replete with pictures and serves as a reference book/encyclopaedia for students, aspiring and working journalists. Chief editor of Rahnuma-e-Deccan Syed Vicaruddin, former head of OU Urdu department Prof Fatima Parveen and others were present on the occasion.
