Hyderabad: The Telangana government, as a part of its efforts to consolidate Hyderabad as global destination for information technology and related sectors, is gearing up to unveil exclusive policies for IT, startups, gaming & animation, and hardware sectors this month.

Satya Nadella, the Hyderabad-born Chief Executive Officer of software giant Microsoft, is expected to launch these new policies during his much-awaited visit to T-Hub, the country’s largest incubation centre, here on December 28.

“We are planning to hold a big event during Nadella’s visit. We have also requested him to unveil four new policies,” IT Minister K T Rama Rao told media after inaugurating incubation centre for gaming and animation startups here.

The initiatives to be unveiled include new policies for IT, innovation and startups, Innovation in Multimedia, Animation, Gaming & Entertainment (IMAGE) and Electronic System Design Manufacturing (ESDM) police which focuses on hardware sector. In addition, Nadella will also address representatives from startups as well as IT sector during his visit to T-Hub.

The IT Minister, while referring to the floods in Chennai which hit the IT sector, said Hyderabad has the unique opportunity as no other city is as safe as the City of Pearls. “No other city is shielded from natural calamities like cyclones, typhoons and earthquakes. We have to seize this opportunity and work for it,” he said.

He further said that Hyderabad reasserted itself as one of the top destinations of IT in the country due to the innovative initiatives taken up by his government in the last 16 to 18 months.

“But we have bigger plans. Multiple initiatives have been taken and with the kind of planning and policy support, we hope that Hyderabad will be the top destination in the country in couple of years,” he explained.

On the incubation centre for gaming and animation which functions under umbrella of T-Hub, the IT Minister said it was the first step towards making Hyderabad hub for animation and gaming industry.

Spread over 30,000 square feet in Hitec City in Madhapur, the facility was developed at a cost of Rs 8 crore in collaboration with the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI). The centre can accommodate 232 startups and early stage ventures.

IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the State government would also announce a hardware incubator for the electronics sector soon.

"Hyderabad will become startup capital of the country in real terms. There is no other city which is promoting startups, innovation and entrepreneurship in such a big way," he maintained.
