Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to digitalise land and building registration records from 1970.

According to the GHMC Town Planning officials, the civic body has already digitalised all building and land registration records from 1995. It is also planning to digitalise records from 1970 in three phases.

They said in the first phase the GHMC would digitalise records from 1985 to 1995, in the second phase from 1975 to 1985 and in the third phase it would amalgamate the data from 1970 to till date.

The GHMC officials further stated that even though digitalising records was a great decision to maintain 100 percent accuracy and transparency and it would be a herculean task for staff deficient Town Planning department.

Citing this, the civic body was also planning to handover the job to some private agencies to scan the documents and upload them into the GHMC server, they added.

A Town Planning department official told The Hans India that digitalising records would be great idea to track the applications quickly just by entering the registration number.

He also felt that even though it was a tough job, it was necessary to maintain such records to plan organised development in a rapidly growing city like Hyderabad.

The officials also said that the State government was planning to digitalise all records after Independence, before merging with Andhra Pradesh after completing the three phases.
