Gang held for stealing cable drums

Hyderabad: A seven-member gang involved in theft of electric cable drums has been arrested by the Saidabad police on Sunday. The police recovered 13 tonnes of electric cable drums, 500 fan routers, 300 fan blades, six bags of PVC granules and a hydraulic crane used for transportation of stolen property from the gang.

A contactor of Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) lodged a complaint with the Saidabad police stating that about 13 tonnes of electric cable drums from a work site at Laxmi Nagar were stolen by unknown persons. During investigation, police found that similar offences were committed at Charminar, Banjara Hills, Madhapur and soon after the incident at Saidabad, another offence was reported at Gopalpuram police station limits.

After collecting the clues, police zeroed in on Shaik Abdul Kareem, who runs scrap business at Fateh darwaza in Kalapathar area and Mohammed Mujahid Ahmed, a transporter from Bahadurpura. During interrogation, they confessed to have committed the offence and have sold the stolen material to Mohammed Akbar Pasha of Musheerabad, Bagdaram Devasi, Hari Ram Shou, Shaik Muneer and Dr M Uday Bhaskar, of Jeedimetla, to earn easy money. Based on their confessions, the Saidabad police arrested the accused and remanded them to judicial custody.
