RPF nabs two persons for illegal selling of e-tickets

Hyderabad: Anti-touting squad of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Secunderabad division arrested two persons, including an engineering dropout, and unearthed an e-ticket racket on Sunday. Police found that railway e-tickets were being sold illegally on the premises of Disha Travels at Oasis Plaza in Abids.

The arrest was made based on the intelligence inputs received. After conducting decoy checks, RPF confirmed the information. As many as 152 e-tickets, worth over Rs 3.67 lakh, along with two hard disks were seized during the raids on the premises and the kingpin behind the racket Amit Gandhi, 24, was arrested, the South Central Railway (SCR) authorities said in a note on Sunday.

The accused, a former an IRCTC agent, started booking e-tickets using personal user IDs to procure tickets even after the expiry of his licence in connivance with his friend Farhan, 25, from Old City in Hyderabad. “The tickets are being sold illegally at premium ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 200 per head and had been procured on 35 active personal user IDs. The seized tickets have been blocked and legal action has been initiated against the accused under section 143 (i) of Railways Act,” the SCR officials said.
