Hyderabad: Akhil Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) observed a bandh across major State universities on Monday demanding the government to abolish GOs 28 and 29, which, they claimed, will destroy the autonomy of universities. The ABVP also demanded the government to appoint regular vice-chancellors for Universities and increase the amount of mess charges.

The group observed a bandh at Osmania University, JNTU, Telugu University, JNTU Fine Arts, Nizam College, Secunderabad College, Saifabad College, City College and boycotted classes in universities across the State. Speaking on the occasion, ABVP state secretary J Niranjan alleged that the TRS government was totally neglecting education sector as part of its efforts to make the universities as centres for politics.

He asked the government to appoint regular vice-chancellors to keep the universities’ governance on track.He also demanded the State government to increase the mess bills, irrespective of schools, colleges and universities, to Rs 2,500 per month. Later the police detained leaders Raghavender, Ellaswamy, Srihari, Anji, Vishnu, Jeevan, Sandesh and others.
