Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is initiating plans to develop a new mobile application to monitor the prestigious Telanganaku Haritha Haram (TKHH) in metropolitan area.

The plan, which is under discussion, is intended to keep track of plantation saplings on day to day basis. The proposed application is aimed at securing detailed report from each mandal. The HMDA officials are making plans to ensure that the application is designed in such a way as to not only monitor the Haritha Haram activity but also monitor weather under its

jurisdiction. The HMDA has been given a target to ensure plantation of 4 crore saplings during the next year. It includes 5 lakh avenue plantation, 4 lakh in block plantation (on institutional and industrial lands), 30 lakh near Tank Bund/foreshore plantation, 1 lakh on river bund/nalah /canal plantations, 118 lakh Homestead planting, 100 lakh hedge plantation and ORR, 20 lakh for farmer bund plantations, 15 lakh in residential colonies, 10 lakh in forest areas, 32 lakh inside Sanjeeviah park and other locations in HMDA, 10 lakh in TSSIC industrial areas and remaining 55 lakh will be raised in nursery.

It has deployed variety of species of plants, such as Gulmohar, Rain tree, Cassia Fistula and many others which are widely preferred in public places. Nearly 118 lakh of medicinal, aromatic and mosquito repellent plants species will be distributed to people for homestead plantation.

During 2015 the HMDA succeeded in planting a total of 26.09 lakh saplings out of a total 120.37 saplings raised. The urban forestry experts of metropolitan authority said the target of planning 40 lakh saplings during 2015 in phase-I could not be met due to deficit rainfall. The HMDA received the administrative sanction of Rs 35.28 crore from the government for carrying out second phase of plantation which is set to commence from next year.
