With the Osmania University students planning to hold beef and pork festivals scheduled for December 10 on the campus, the city civil court on Monday issued a status quo giving orders that such events will not be held till December 21.

The petition filed by advocate Janardhan Goud alleged that the beef and pork festivals could result in law and order issues in turn affecting the peace in the city.

Mr Goud told the court that the festivals hurt the sentiments of both Hindus and Muslims. Also, the advocate stated that earlier such festivals were held in a provocative manner, resulting in many injuries along with attempt to murder (IPC Section 307) cases getting filed.

The petition also alleged Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act with the law of banning cow slaughter getting violated during the festival.
