According to his relatives, the farmer had accumulated debts amounting to Rs 3 lakh. He felt worried about getting his two daughters married.
He sowed maize and cotton crops on four acres of land he took on lease but they wilted due to deficit rainfall. He took the extreme step unable to repay the loans he had borrowed, the family members said.
Though the government declared 63 out of total 64 as drought-hit mandals, relief operation are yet to begin.
