Hyderabad: The Lok Satta on Tuesday demanded that the Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) increase the disqualification period of corporators from three to six years in case of failure of elected representatives to submit election expenditure. The Lok Satta, city unit, urged the SEC to implement the rule after holding the elections to the GHMC.

Speaking to the media, LS party city general secretary B Sambi Reddy said the SEC in 2009 Corporation election had disqualified 27 persons for three years for not submitting their election expenditure. Three year disqualification would allow them contest in the next elections. If a people’s representatives were disqualified for six years, he or she cannot contest immediately.

Sambi Reddy pointed out that there was discrepancy between the data collected by the GHMC and the one by the Telangana Samagra Survey as far as Backward Class population was concerned. While the GHMC survey showed that the BC population accounted for 26 per cent, the data by TSS survey put the figure at 50 per cent.
