Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday directed the officials to prepare long-term plans to face drought conditions in the State.

In order to rescue farmers from the agrarian crises, KCR has directed officials to provide input subsidy, water facilities, and cattle fodder to them immediately in all 231 drought-hit mandals in the State.

Besides chalking out the long-term strategy to prevent the recurrence of drought, he asked them to prepare plans for construction of irrigation projects, increasing ground-water reserves, and to increase the forest density.

The State government has also decided to increase the number of working days the under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to 200 days.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the drought-situation with the Central team. He sought additional funds for procuring fodder for cattle, and requested them to declare at least one irrigation project in Telangana as national project.

He informed them that the State was facing acute drinking water crisis due to scanty rainfall in several mandals. To bring about a turnaround in the situation, he said the State government was implementing Mission Bhagiratha project.

The Chief Minister also lashed out at the previous regimes for neglecting the plight of farmers, and said nothing was done to make agriculture profitable.

He also pointed out every State in the country has at least one national irrigation project and urged the Centre to include Telangana State in the list.
