EC slaps notices on KCR, KTR
Election Commission of India dashed separate notices to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his son and IT Minister K Tarakarama Rao for violating Model Code of Conduct in force for Biennial Election to the Telangana Legislative Council. It sought explanation from both by Friday evening.

Hyderabad: Election Commission of India dashed separate notices to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his son and IT Minister K Tarakarama Rao for violating Model Code of Conduct in force for Biennial Election to the Telangana Legislative Council. It sought explanation from both by Friday evening.
Taking into account the news item ‘Khammam will be developed on par with Godavari Dists : KCR’, which was published in The Hans India on November 29, EC served notice to the Chief Minister on Wednesday. While Minister KTR was also served notice for admitting several MPTCs and ZPTCs from Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy into the party fold in the Secretariat.
The EC asked both of them to give explanation with 48 hours from the time they had received the notice. The notices were served to KCR and KTR on Wednesday, however, came to light on Thursday. After the EC had announced the schedule of election on November 24, the Model Code of Conduct came into force in all nine districts of Telangana, excluding Hyderabad.
The notice mentions the meeting of TRS on November 28, where several Congress leaders from Khammam district were admitted into the party at Chief Minister’s official camp office in Begumpet. He had also announced that Khammam district will be developed on par with Godavari districts of AP and the Khammam district will reap benefits from the unification of Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects.
The EC has pointed out that party in power cannot use its official position for the purpose of its election campaign. In case of K Taraka Rama Rao, it pointed out that his chamber (Secretariat) was used for admitting leaders from other parties on November 27.
It may be mentioned here that the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee had represented to the EC on December 8. The delegation comprised of former MLC B Kamalakar Rao, TPCC official spokesperson G Niranjan. They had met Syed Nasim Ahmed Zaidi, Chief Election Commissioner of India and Election Commissioners, A K Joti and O P Rawath in New Delhi.
