Education is the right of every girl and child rights are also human rights, according to activists who were present at the Bala Pratibha Mela 2015, which was organised at the Government Boys High School in Siddipet, commemorating the International Human Rights Day observed on Thursday.

Students from 64 government educational institutions from seven mandals in Siddipet division participated in the event. Essay writing, elocution, singing, drawing, mono-act and group dance competitions were held on the occasion and prizes were distributed to the children.

Addressing the gathering, TJAC chairman Prof Kodandaram said according to Article 3 of the Indian Constitution, students had the right to education and that every student needs to get educated and achieve his/her goal.

Food Security National Advisor Prof Rama Melkote observed that according to the Right to Education Act of 2009, discrimination was not supposed to be shown in schools but it was not the case in reality. She pointed out that many children whose parents migrated to other places for livelihood were not being admitted in other schools, which was a blatant violation of RTE Act.

Singer Deshapathi Srinivas, Higher Education Committee Member G Papaiah, eminent writer Nandini Sidha Reddy, pediatrician Dr T Nalini, Press Academy member Anjaiah, regional manager of Action-aid Telangana, Anjaneyulu, PRTU State president Narayana Reddy and CCC coordinator Asha Latha were present on the occasion.
