Hyderabad: The city police have arrested 12 students of Osmania University for organising beef festival on campus in violation of the orders of the High Court. A case has also booked against Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh for abusing a police officer on duty.

The city police arrested students on Friday following circulation of photographs in social media, showing that they were eating meat in the hostel rooms on Thursday. The students claimed that they had successfully organised the beef festival despite heavy police deployment on the campus.

Gaddala Anjibabu, Naveen Yadav, Kommu Sekhar, Manthani Kumar, Ravinder, Uppalayya, Shankar, Prasad, Suresh, Lakshman, Sudarshan and Eshwar were among the arrested. A case was booked against the students under section 153 A, section 188 and section 290 of IPC in the OU Police station.

The police registered a case under section 353 and section 506 of IPC against Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh for abusing the Bolaram police inspector G Jagan when he was being shifted from Asif Nagar ACP office to Bolaram police station. The MLA was taken into preventive custody from his residence in Mangalhat as he threatened to disrupt the beef festival.
