Hyderabad: In a first step towards achieving ‘Power for All (PFA)’, the Telangana State government on Friday entered into an agreement with the Union Ministry of Power.

Telangana Energy Secretary Arvind Kumar and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Power Jyoti Arora signed the document in the presence of Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi.

Under the PFA, the Centre and TS government have planned to supply quality and reliable power round the clock to consumers by 2018-19 in the State.

Arvind said that the PFA will address all the key aspects and activities to be undertaken across generation, transmission and distribution including achieving 100 per cent household electrification. An investment of Rs 18,983 crore and Rs 23,817 crore has been planned by FY 2018-19 for strengthening and augmentation of transmission and distribution network in the State, he added.

In addition to strengthening of the transmission and distribution network and the massive capacity expansion programme of the State government, the PFA document also gives emphasis on sustainability through solar and wind capacity additions and energy efficiency measures.

Under energy efficiency measures, about 11.4 lakh agricultural pumpsets are proposed to be replaced at an investment of Rs 2,280 crore and LED replacement programmes in households and streetlights is proposed to be taken up at an investment of Rs 760 crore.
