Water storage levels in Andhra Pradesh reservoirs are comparatively better than those in Telangana State this year. Most of the reservoirs in AP received good inflows due to recent rains. A statement issued by the Union Water Resources Ministry on water available in 91 major reservoirs in the country confirmed that AP was among two other states- Himachal Pradesh and Tripura - having better water storage than last year.
AP reservoirs see huge inflows
Hyderabad: Water storage levels in Andhra Pradesh reservoirs are comparatively better than those in Telangana State this year. Most of the reservoirs in AP received good inflows due to recent rains. A statement issued by the Union Water Resources Ministry on water available in 91 major reservoirs in the country confirmed that AP was among two other states- Himachal Pradesh and Tripura - having better water storage than last year.
States having lesser storage than last year for corresponding period are Telangana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In Telangana state, water levels in the reservoirs under Krishna basin have gone down to an all-time low during the last one decade. Water available in Jurala reservoir was only 9.22 tmcft as against 11.79 tmcft last year.
The gross capacity of the reservoir is 11.941 tmcft. In Nagarjuna Sagar, the water level is 129 tmcft which is almost 100 tmcft less than last year. Under Godavari basin, water storage levels have gone down to 0.42 tmcft as against 1.64 tmcft during last year. In Nizam Sagar reservoir it is 0.88 tmcft as against 1071 tmcft last year. In Singur and in Sriram Sagar, water levels are 6.53 tmcft this year. Last year, it was 19.35 tmcft.
Although reservoirs in Krishna basin in Andhra Pradesh shows that water levels are low, the water bodies in Pennar and other basins are brimming with huge inflows. In Pennar basin, water levels in Kandaleru reservoir was 31.73 tmcft as against 22.62 tmcft last year. Mylavaram, Somasila, PABR , SPVB reservoir ( Brahamgari Mattam) and Ramathirdha Sagar balancing reservoir received good inflows. Jeedipalli, Thandava and Thotapalli reservoirs also received good inflows. However, water levels in Yeleru and Vamshadhara reservoirs depleted in Andhra Pradesh.
