Hyderabad: The BJP is now focussing its attention on the GHMC elections. The party wants to evolve a fool proof mechanism wherein it can save its prestige and image. The party election management committee met here on Saturday and discussed various issues including coordination and seat sharing with TDP.
Speaking to media after the meeting, the BJP floor leader in Assembly K Lakshman said TRS has been implementing the strategies drafted by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) at Darussalam.
He said the State government has joined hands with AIMIM and using the GHMC officials as pawns in order to win the Corporation polls. He also felt that the TRS has been adopting wrong practices by encouraging defections and threatening those who were opposed to it to win the elections. Even MLC Mohammed Ali Shabbir has been receiving threat calls, he added.
Commenting on the decrease of reserved wards in GHMC limits, Lakshman said, the State government has reduced the number of seats of Scheduled Castes (SCs) from 3 to 2 and Scheduled Tribes (STs) from 11 to 10, which was a great injustice.
He alleged that the TRS has deliberately reduced the number of seats in order to resist their political growth. Lakshman said that the party would conduct extensive padayatras, basti yatras, flag festivals and review meetings in order intensify the poll campaign. When asked about the seat sharing with TDP, he said that would be decided only after the election notification.
