Telugu filim ‘Sharanam Gachhami’ takes potshots at Hardik Patel’s movement

  • Director says the 21-year-old Pattidar is trying to snatch the hope to live of SCs, STs and Dalits with his anti-reservation movement
  • Reservation is like a ‘crutch’ to a handicapped person to wriggle out of his/her pitiable life

Prem Raj Hyderabad: It seems that the line between reel and real-life is blurring these days since a young Telangana filmmaker Prem Raj is making a hard-hitting Telugu film titled, “Sharanam Gachhami,” to counter Hardik Patel’s anti-reservation movement which created ripples in Gujarat and as well as other parts of country.

The 21-year-old Pattidar demanded inclusion of Patels in OBC list or abolition of reservation system per se. “It’s an absurd argument put up by Hardik Patel, who wants to rewrite history without realising the sufferings of lower caste and trying to snatch their hope to live. He has overlooked the oppression the SCs, STs and Dalits and other OBCs underwent for generations, so reservation is like a crutch to an handicapped person,” according to Prem Raj, who feels that this movement is handiwork of a few vested interests

The writer-turned-director has roped in young actors Naveen Sanjay and Tanishq to play the lead and thanked producer Bommaku Murali for supporting his vision. “If not for producer Murali’s support I couldn’t have commenced this hard-hitting movie and we will start shooting in next two weeks,” says Prem, who also dismisses Hardik’s argument that reservations should be based on “economic criterion” instead of “caste.”

“That’s a ridiculous argument because only 2 per cent or 3 per cent of upper caste population could be economically weak, whereas 70 per cent of the population needs reservations on caste basis in education, government jobs and even private jobs, to change the fate of their pitiable lives. Upper caste people want reservations in jobs.

So will they take up a job of a sweeper or scavenger, they can’t since it hurts their pride. Whereas, lower caste persons who keep our house and society clean are always looked down upon” he concludes.
