Hyderabad: Cancer Care India, along with Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, is holding 13th All India Conference of Cancer Care India on Saturday and Sunday on the premises of BIACH&RI, Road No 14, Banjara Hills, here.

Inaugurating the conference, Governor ESL Narasimhan exhorted corporate hospitals to fix the costs in a transparent manner as patients were now getting burdened with huge costs involved in getting treatment.

He also asked the medical professionals to identify the ways and means to reduce the burden of unnecessary tests on patients. The Governor wanted the corporate hospitals in the State to identify five top-notch killer diseases and work out affordable treatment mechanisms. He also revealed that his office would soon take an initiative in organising a meeting in this regard with all corporate hospitals in the State. He also urged them to spend their CSR funds in this direction.

R P Singh of BIACH&RI explained about various features of the hospital like cancer screening and awareness programs undertaken since its inception.

He said the BIACH&RI has organised some 960 cancer screening camps and examined 1,85,000 people across the country and measures like free dormitory with free meals to reduce the cost burden on the patients. Dr J K Singh, Cancer Care India president and Renu Saigal also spoke.
