Hyderabad: Five day-long Vertical Interaction Course on “Left Wing Extremism” (LWE) concluded on Saturday at RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy. K Vijaya Kumar, Advisor to Ministry of Home Affairs and former Director of NPA & DG, CRPF, was the chief guest at the valedictory function onSaturday.

The five day course was attended by officers of the rank of Inspectors General of Police to Additional Superintendents of Police representing Kerala, Tamil Nadu, UP, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Telangana and Uttarakhand states and officers of the rank of Commandants and Deputy Commandants from Para Military Forces participated.

The participants discussed on various topics, like Warfare strategies of LWE, including role of frontal organisations, Naxalite Ideology and State response to combat the extremism. They also turned their attention on the role of Central Para Military Force, Human Rights, Security of Police Stations and Community Policing in LWE-affected areas, Interstate Coordination, Police Strategy and Response at district-level and investigation of extremist cases. Anurag Sharma, Director General of Police, inaugurated the event November 7.

The senior officers from other states K Durga Prasad, Special DGP, New Delhi, D M Mithra, Director, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NICFS) New Delhi, Dipanshu Kabra, IGP, SIB, Chattisgarh interacted with the participants of the course.

Arun Bothra, IGP, Odisha, trained the participants on investigation of extremist cases and how to collect forensic evidence. P V Ramana of IDSA, New Delhi, who did research for 13 years on the Naxalism and extremism talked about recruitment, funding and procurement of weapons.

Prof G Haragopal took part in a panel discussion with the participants on efficacy of the government, police response to Left wing extremism.

Senior officers of Telangana State, including B Shivdhar Reddy, IGP, Intelligence, Dr R S Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSSWREIS, M M Bhagawath, IGP, Security Wing, V C Sajjanar, IGP, SIB, Shanwaz Khasim, Superintendent of Police, Khammam, M Rajender, Member, TSPSC & former, Director, AP Judicial Academy and Officers from Andhra Pradesh Ch D Thirumala Rao, ADGP, CID, S Umapathi, IPS (Retd.) also took part.
