Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy appeals to the Chief Minister to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi

Hyderabad: TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to take up with the Centre the issue of sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes into four categories. He appealed to KCR to lead all-party delegation to Delhi.

Following MRPS (Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi) leader Manda Krishna’s meeting with N Uttam Kumar Reddy in Gandhi Bhavan, the latter wrote a letter to KCR, appealing to him to exert pressure on the Centre to find a solution to the problem that has been hanging fire for long. While referring to the recommendations of Justice Usha Mehra Committee, he stated that pressure may be mounted on the Union government to amend Article 341 of the Constitution to ensure categorisation of the SCs. The TPCC chief recalled it was unanimously resolved in the Legislative Assembly recommending to the Union government to take up the matter in Parliament for making necessary arrangements to divide the SCs into four categories.

The then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y S Rajasekara Reddy, led a delegation comprising the representatives from all parties in the State and pursued the matter several times with the Central government. Even after formation of the Telangana State, the Legislative Assembly had unanimously resolved recommending sub-categorisation of SCs as suggested by the Commission.
