Warangal: Former MLC Chukka Ramaiah urged the State government to initiate urgent measures towards the welfare of nomadic tribes.

Lakhs of nomadic tribals were lacking rights and welfare measures since they were used to move from place to place. Even though they do not have support, the nomads in the region were trying to keep their traditions alive but now their traditions and arts were on the verge of extinction, he said.

Ramaiah addressed a gathering at a seminar on ‘Lives of nomadic tribes-literature-arts-culture’ organised by Telangana Rachaitala Vedika in Kazipet on Sunday. ‘A true artist is the one who makes its use for the benefit of the society and the nomads fall in that category,’ he said.

The Vedika state president J Thirumal Rao has stressed on the need to document and institutionalise the oral traditions and art forms of the nomads. He expressed concern on the extinction of several vocations practiced by the nomadic and non-nomadic tribes.

The Telangana government should support the tribals to practice their art forms by providing livelihood since the art forms and traditions were rich in nature and greatly contribute to the society. There were nearly 90 nomadic tribes which have their unique art forms.

The Vedika district president, P Chand and general secretary Anwar said they were making efforts to document the nomadic arts forms by creating videos and photographs. Arunodaya Samskritika Samakhya president Vimalakka and others were present.
