Warangal: The Mars Orbiter Mission and Chandrayan-I have proved the scientific capability of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said its Chairman A S Kiran Kumar.

The ISRO, which set 2017-18 as a target for launching Chandrayaan-2, has been developing it as an indigenous mission. The payloads of the mission lunar orbiter, lander and the rover to examine the surface of the moon were being developed indigenously, he said.

Delivering the convocation address at the 13th convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal in Kazipet on Sunday, he said Indian technological and scientific community proved their skill and technical intelligence among the clientele.

The Indian higher education system was the third largest next to USA and China, he said adding that the country was experiencing a rapid growth in terms of student enrollment and establishment institutes of national importance. India having skilled and young work force was emerging as global power. The graduating engineers should inculcate constructive and positive attitude to succeed. Indian talent has overcome barriers and boundaries to gain top positions in global corporate world.
Kiran Kumar commended the progress made by India in technological in bio, information and nuclear technologies along with space research and service sector were highly commendable.

NITW Director Prof T S Rao in his report on the Institute said the NITW has 22 R&D projects worth Rs 5.8 crore and has MoUs with institutions like NATCO, DRDO, BARC, C-DAC, ECIL, CPRI, Dr Reddy’s, C-MET, Suven Life Sciences and others.

A total of 1,598 candidates were awarded their degrees, out which 65 were Ph D degrees, 685 were M Tech and other post graduate degree and 848 were B Tech degrees. Evani Sai Kalyan of Civil Engineering bagged Institute Gold Medal at the convocation.
