Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha Member and senior Congress senior leader V Hanumanth Rao on Sunday asked the TRS leaders, who frequently stated that their aim was creation of Bangaru Telangana, why they were influencing other party leaders.
Speaking to the media on the Assembly premises, Hanumantha Rao opined that democracy would flourish only when the Opposition existed. He reminded the Congress leaders, who joined the TRS recently, that they would not enjoy the freedom they enjoyed in the Congress. He said those who were joining TRS had to stay calm like D Srinivas and K Keshava Rao.
He recalled the phrases regularly used by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao like ‘ethical and moral’ governance, while mentioning his style of working. He felt that contrary to claims, the TRS was engaged in ‘horse trading’ even for small-time leaders who could only become liability in the long run. The leader questioned the way GHMC elections were being perceived by the party, where several leaders from other parties were already being lured into the TRS fold. “What will you attain by adopting cheap tactics, when there is no threat to your position till 2019?” asked Hanumantha Rao.
Rao felt that the sole purpose of the Congress leaders joining the TRS was getting benefitted from being part of ruling party. He cautioned that the TRS would not remain in power after 2019 elections, as it had failed to deliver people the Bangaru Telangana for which it was voted to power.
While demanding construction of Jyothi Rao Phule auditorium, he cautioned the government that he would observe a hunger-strike in April 2016. He said the long pending demand should be realised, lest the people who had voted Chandrashekar Rao to power would vote against him in the next elections.
Hanumanth Rao also opined that there were some mistakes in the selection of MLC candidates in his party.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress MLA Sampath alleged that the TRS had thrown ethical values in dust bin. He said the TRS was encouraging party defections shamelessly. He also asked the State government to take an all-party delegation to Delhi on the SC Categorisation issue. The TRS would face the wrath of Madiga community if it refused to take the all-party delegation to Delhi, he said.
