Heritage activists have criticized the Telangana government ever since the TRS rule began for ignoring heritage structures in the state. Now, the state government has issued orders to discard Regulation 13 of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority that paves way for heritage buildings demolition.

Heritage activist M Mandal said that the move by the government is irrational as the historical structures were built over the years and demolishing them would bring an end to Telangana's history.

While the TRS government earlier made promises to protect the heritage of the state, now it plans to build skyscrapers around the Hussain Sagar lake by replacing many heritage buildings. Following the government's decision to build houses for the poor in 11 acres land in Osmania University, protests emerged against the decision and also over the plans to demolish the 150-year-old Osmania General Hospital for a super specialty hospital.

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali said that there is nothing wrong in the government's move as every building in the city is called a heritage but the structures could fall any time and demolishing them is not wrong.
