Two SBI ATMs burgled, `40.5 lakh stolen

Nizamabad: Professional gangs from Maharashtra robbed two State Bank Group ATMs in the district and robbed nearly Rs 40.5 lakh. They opened the ATM’s with gas cutters after midnight and decamped with the cash. They destroyed the CC cameras in the ATMs. The burglars suddenly changed their modus operandi and this time, they selected the ATMs instead of looting or ransacking residential houses. They robbed the State Bank of India ATMs and Private India One group ATMs at Varni Mandal Rudruru and Kotagiri mandal headquarters.
On receiving information from the villagers, the police rushed to the spot and collected the finger prints with the help of clue teams and a dog squad. District SP Chandrashekhar Reddy, Bodhan DSP Venkateshwarlu and other police officials visited the spot.
Speaking to the media, the Nizamabad Superintendent of Police Chandrashekhar Reddy said that the gang of robbers first came to the Varni Mandal Rudruru village after midnight on Monday, targeted the two ATMs which were situated on Bodha-Varni Road. Robbers first destroyed the closed circuit cameras in-front of the ATMs. First, they targeted the private sector India-one ATM, and tried to open the doors and cut them with gas cutters. When it was not opened, they robbed the SBI ATM by cutting and opening the SBI ATM doors and stole nearly Rs 31 lakh.
Afterwards, the burglars robbed the SBI ATM at the Kotagiri mandal headquarters. They opened the ATM with a gas cutter and stole Rs 9.5 lakh from the ATM, the SP added. He said that they were suspecting the role of Maharashtra gangs in the ATM’s robbery and police investigation was still in progress.
