Hyderabad: The Krishna River Water Management Board (KRWMB) on Wednesday gave a temporary reprieve to Andhra Pradesh by allocating 10 tmc of water to the State for irrigation purpose and another 1.2 tmc of water to meet the drinking water needs in Hyderabad.

The Board held a meeting here with the Irrigation officials of Telangana and AP to find a solution to share the available water at Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam reservoirs between the two States. The Board asked the two State representatives to utilise water as per the allocations in view of depleted water levels in the reservoirs. The representatives accepted the board’s directive in this regard.

The officials also discussed the possibility of bringing the projects on Krishna River under the purview of the Board. At present, the projects were being monitored by the Krishna Water Tribunal.

The meeting adopted a resolution requesting the Union Ministry of Water Resources to take up necessary safety measures on Srisailam dam. The fourth meeting of the Board will be held in Vijayawada, officials said.
