Hyderabad: The Telangana State government is likely to announce a new housing scheme for the people in the income group of Rs 3- Rs 6 lakh per annum.

Perhaps this is the first time in the country that a State government has prepared a big plan to provide housing for all working class people, both in organised and unorganised sectors, including government employees at an affordable price in the State with the assistance from the Union government, senior officials told The Hans India.

The new housing scheme will be implemented first in all urban areas where the concentration of workers is high. Later, the scheme will be extended to all mandal headquarters in a phased manner.

An official of the State Housing Department said that houses will be allotted to the beneficiaries on cost to cost basis. The cost of the houses will vary depending on land value. The value of each unit will not more than Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakhs in Municipal Corporations limits and Rs 6 to Rs 8 lakhs in other urban areas. However, the common area of each flat is yet to be finalised.

Under the scheme, the beneficiary will be offered interest free loan up to Rs 6 lakh borrowed from the banks. The interest amount for Rs 6 lakhs will be borne by the Centre under ‘Credit- linked Subsidy Scheme.”

The sources said the government already held talks with the Union Ministry of Urban Development in this regard. About 15 to 20 lakh working class families will get permanent housing under the scheme.
