Hyderabad: Minority Welfare Department and allied wings are now fund-starved, thanks to the Telangana government which had earmarked Rs 1,130 crore budget for the financial year 2015-16, but failed to release the second and third quarter funds. Till now, it has only released Rs 255 crore.

This has resulted in several schemes, including the State government’s flagship programme Shaadi Mubarak, getting badly affected.

Around 5,000 applications are pending clearance with the government. So far, the government has released only Rs 225 crore and is yet to release the second and the third quarter funds.

According to official sources, the first quarter budgetary funds were released in April, but after that no funds were released. Even though funds for the third quarter should have been released by October, there is no indication from the government when it would materialise. Various government programmes including scholarship and fee reimbursement has prompted several students to run from pillar to post.

Various vocational training programmes extended by the government are discontinued because of lack of funds in Minority Finance Corporation. “The fresh applications of any kind would not be processed, since there are no funds available for implementing the schemes,” said a source. With several festivities in the month of December and government getting busy for the GHMC elections, there are few chances that pending funds would be released anytime soon.
