Mahbubnagar: Telangana Tourism department is planning to develop Jadcherla town on National Highway 44 as a major tourism hub in Mahabubnagar district.

According to district collector DrT K Sridevi, the State Tourism Department has sought a proposal from the district authorities with a detailed report on the possible location for tourism spot in the district. As part of this, the district collector, along with the officials of Tourism Department, have zeroed in on Jadcherla mandal as an ideal place to set up a tourism hub in the district.

In view of this, the district collector visited Jadcherla last month and had identified an area of four acres of government land behind the Roads and Building (R&B) guesthouse in Jadcherla as an ideal place for constructing infrastructure facilities like restaurants, food courts and transportation for the tourists.

Ideally, Jadcherla is well-connected to each and every part of the district. Historically, also the place is known for its cultural heritage, as it has many famous temples and other tourist spots surrounding the town. The Chennakeshava Swamy Temple at Gangapur, just eight kilometers away from Jadcherla is a 12th century temple which is famous for its architectural marvel. It was constructed during the Chola period.

Apart from this, temples like the Gollatha Gudi, a holy shrine for Jains, Anjaneya Swamy temple at Urakondapeta in Midjil mandal and Parushaveri temple at Meenambram stream are some of the famous temples that are expected to be included in the plan for the development of tourism hub. In addition to this, the Ranganayaka Swamy temple on the top of a hillock at Badepally and the picturesque landscapes in and around the hillock are also expected to get a facelift as part of the plan.

Apart from this, Nachiketa Tapovanam at Kodugal and Maisamma temple at Fathepur near Mahabubnagar are also expected to be developed under the tourism hub plan. The Sitammajalu (waterfall) in the nearby forest which sees water pouring from the top of a hill all round the year and Mayuri Nursery are also included in the plan to attract tourists.

Pillalamarri which is already a picnic spot is famous for tourists in the district. Additionally, the newly established pharma special economic zone (SEZ) near Jadcherla along with a private management university which had got the go ahead from the State government are expected to boost not only the real estate business, it is also expected to generate thousands of jobs for the youth in the district once this project is taken up in a big way.

Speaking to The Hans India, collector Sridevi said that she received a proposal to develop a tourism hub in the district from Telangana Tourism Department a few months ago. “They sought me to identify a place which is close the national highway. After examining all feasibilities, we zeroed in on the Jadcherla town as it is bestowed with historic and cultural heritage as well as railway station,” she said.

She added that the tourism hub was intended to provide all facilities to passengers who were commuting along the highway. As the town is only 80 kilometers away from Hyderabad and it connects Nalgonda, Rayalaseema and Bengaluru and Raichur, it will attract a lot of people passing the town. Already Jadcherla is known for several dhabas where a lot of vehicles passing by stop and have dinner, breakfast and lunch.
