Sangareddy: The sugarcane farmers are facing travails as there are no takers for their crops on the one hand and on the other the dues to be paid to them factories are mounting. The sugarcane factories owe as much as Rs 22.95 crore to the farmers.

There are three main sugar factories in the district. But only Ganapathi Sugars has so far paid to the farmers in full. During 2014-15, sugarcane crop was cultivated in 15,940 acres.

Trident Sugar Factory in Zaheerabad still owes Rs 18.35 crore to 1,500 farmers and Nizam Deccan Sugars Limited in Mambojipally in Medak Rs 3.6 crore to 2,600 farmers.

After paying several visits to the factory for payment of their dues, the farmers are sceptical over the managements’ intention of clearing their dues. The farmers are worried over the NDSL laying off its workers.

Having borrowed money from private moneylenders, the farmers are now worried how to repay their loans if the factories which have crushed their cane did not pay their dues on time.
