Hyderabad: While the TDP-BJP got into campaign mode without awaiting the reservation of wards to be announced, the Congress took up negative propaganda as a tool to cash on anti-incumbency.

TDP-BJP has already started public meetings with Union Ministers, whereas the Congress is likely to hold a huge public meeting on January 9 and 10 when Digvijay Singh visits the city.

After kick starting an aggressive campaign in the city, TRS Ministers are busy trying to cosy up with the GHMC staff by actively taking part in programmes like orientation camp. On Wednesday, Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Rama Rao lauded the efforts of the workers and described the corporation as one of its kind in the entire country, where lot of scientific initiatives with regard to Solid Waste Management was being taken up.

The TDP-BJP, which was described as the main opponent by KTR, is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to campaigning. Amongst contesting parties, this was the first player to decorate most of the junctions with party flags.

Focused mostly on negative campaigning against the ruling TRS for its failure to implement the poll promises of 2014, the political combine claims that most of the schemes whose credit is claimed by TRS are in fact the Central government schemes under NDA.

Union Ministers have already started appearing at the public meetings being held at constituencies, which can fetch TDP-BJP a strong majority. After the recent visit of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of State Hansraj Gangaram Ahir also tried to make an impact on the voters of Hyderabad.

However, the leadership is faced with problems of lack of coordination at division level by local leaders of TDP and BJP, as they does not wish become a victim of coalition dharma. Meanwhile, the Congress which had released a GHMC election poster on Wednesday tried to bring contrast between TRS and its development during 10 years of its rule.

Mocking at KCR, a caricature showing a shadowy figure appears in the background on one side with lamp of genie, with ‘Matala Party’ written in Telugu on the poster. While on other side, highlighting the Congress party’s achievements, it describes itself ‘Chethala Party’.

Amongst various kinds of campaigns, Congress will be engaging experts for taking up aggressive campaign through social media. Rather officially kick starting a campaign, the party leadership is pulling the government to the court over Amendment of GHMC Act and issue of reservation of wards.
