Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the University of Hyderabad on Tuesday. An uproar has triggered at the University as a Dalit research scholar committed suicide by hanging himself in a hostel room on Sunday. Massive protests by students are being held in front of the University as they alleged that the deceased, Rohith Vemula had taken the extreme step due to the discrimination he faced.

President of Telangana Unit of Congress Party, Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that Rahul Gandhi would be meeting the students on Tuesday.

Along with Rohith, four other students of the Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) were boycotted by the authorities of the University. The students alleged that the five students were suspended and expelled later following a clash with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leaders.

The ASA leaders said that the expulsion came after Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya wrote to Union Minister for Human Resources Development Smriti Irani pressurising the Vice Chancellor of the University to take action. A case has been registered against Dattatreya, two BJP leaders and Vice Chancellor for violation of Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and abetment of suicide.
