Adilabad district is lagging behind in railway communication facilities as not even a single railway line has been executed in the district. To reach Hyderabad, Telangana state capital, one has to go to Maharashtra to catch a train travelling 120 km additionally.
Adilabad: Adilabad district is lagging behind in railway communication facilities as not even a single railway line has been executed in the district. To reach Hyderabad, Telangana state capital, one has to go to Maharashtra to catch a train travelling 120 km additionally.
The people of the district have been demanding railway authorities to execute the Adilabad-Mancheriyal railway line sanctioned in 2013-14 budget and Adilabad-Pathancheru railway line sanctioned in the previous year. The projects did not progress beyond conducting a survey for laying of the track.
The people lament that not a single railway track was laid in the district after India became independent barring the railway track laid during Nizam period. During the Nizam period, railway tracks were laid to Bellampalli, Mancheriyal, Kagaz Nagar and Adilabad.
The proposed Adilabad-Pathancheru railway track would greatly reduce the time of travel to the State capital. Moreover, Nirmal and Armoor gets train connectivity besides improving train services to Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts.
Adilabad Chamber of Commerce president Jagadishwar Agarwal has been demanding the Central government to complete the pending railway projects to Adilabad for development of the backward district.
Adilabad was strategically located at the midpoint between northern and southern India. There are many north Indians living in Adilabad. To catch a train to north India, one has to travel to Nanded from where daily 14 trains are operational to the North.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, Lecturer Ravi said that people of the district were facing problems as the trains for Adilabad are very few. He has been demanding the Center to extend the 14 train services being operated from Nanded to Adilabad. The people are peeved at Maharashtra government for wresting Gangasagar Express from Adilabad. The people of the district who wish to go to Hyderabad, Delhi and destinations in Kerala are facing problems. Trains passing through the district to destinations in northern India have no stops for them at Mancheriyal, Kagaz Nagar and Bellampalli. People of the district seek stops at these places.
Also, they seek construction of rail over bridge near bus stand at Tamsi in Adilabad district, he added.
Member of Parliament Nagesh submitted 21 proposals to the Union Railway Ministry exhorting it to complete the pending railway projects in the district. He was of the firm view to secure funds for RoB project near the bus stand and Adilabad-Pathancheru rail road project even by mounting pressure on the Center.
The people of the district have pinned their hopes on the coming Railway Budget this month.
