Warangal: The district Congress leaders staged a massive demonstration in Hanamkonda on Wednesday opposing the imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand by the Centre. Congress committee president N Rajender Reddy led the agitation. DCC Bank Chairman J Raghava Reddy, former chief whip G V Ramana Reddy, former Mayor E Swarna, senior leaders EV Srinivas Rao, B Prabhakar Reddy, Rajanala Srihari and others took part in the protest.

They raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and burnt the effigy of the NDA government. Speaking on the occasion, Rajender Reddy accused the BJP of creating a division among Congress MLAs in Uttarakhand to dismiss the State government in an undemocratic manner. Rajender Reddy said that the popularity of the BJP government at the Centre was fast eroding.

He said that the Modi government was becoming fascist and dictatorial and was promoting communalism and dividing the society. The growing unrest on the University campuses across the country proves the fact, he added. The DCC president said that the BJP leaders were not able to come to terms with the decline of support among the people and hence, they were plotting to topple governments in the Congress-ruled States.

However, the future belonged to the Congress and it would regain its past glory, he added. DCCB Chairman Raghava Reddy alleged that the BJP government failed to fulfil its election promises. Narendra Modi promised to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks but failed to do so even after two years of coming to power at the Centre, he lamented.

Modi, who asserted that they could run the country without collecting income tax, was not able to offer much income tax exemptions for the salaried class. On the contrary, his government was targeting the middle class and salaried sections by trying to tax the EPF withdrawals, he added.

The people in the country were watching Modi governments’ misdeeds and would teach the BJP a fitting lesson in next elections, he warned.
