The State government has finalised tenders for modernisation of SRSP distributaries in December last year as 40 per cent of the water was going waste distributaries are in a bad shape. It set June 20 as deadline for completion of the works. An incentive of one per cent of the total cost would be given to the contractor if he completes the works on schedule.
A fine of two per cent of the total project cost would be imposed on the contractor if he fails to adhere to schedule. The work on distributaries from 190 km to 234 km of the project began on January 20. The works have been divided into four packages for speedy execution. The packages include 190 km to 200 km, 200 km to 209 km, 209 km to 226 km and 226 km to 234 km. During the history of the SRSP project, the canal works were undertaken only once.
Speaking to The Hans India, SRSP Superintending Engineer Sudhakar Reddy said: “Top priority has been accorded to maintenance of quality standards in the execution of the canal modernisation works.'' SRSP Deputy Executive Engineer Srinivas said: “The announcement of one per cent incentive for timely completion of the modernisation works has motivated the contractors to speed up the pace of work.
The works will be completed by June Hailing the modernisation of SRSP distributaries, progressive farmer Bitla Sammi Reddy said: “The irrigation engineers should ensure that the works are executed without compromising on quality standards.’’
