Every Urban Local Body (ULB, also called municipality) in Telangana state would soon have an ‘iconic tourism spot’. All the historic places like centuries old temples, forts and khillas and natural habitations – tank bunds, rivers and irrigation projects located in and around ULBs would be promoted as ‘tourist centers’.
Hyderabad: Every Urban Local Body (ULB, also called municipality) in Telangana state would soon have an ‘iconic tourism spot’. All the historic places like centuries old temples, forts and khillas and natural habitations – tank bunds, rivers and irrigation projects located in and around ULBs would be promoted as ‘tourist centers’.
More than 200 places have been identified having huge tourism potential in 67 (excluding GHMC) municipalities in the state. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) and state Tourism Department had conducted a joint study to promote tourism in a big way in the municipalities recently.
According to the study, at least one place has been identified to promote as a big tourism centre in every municipality. While, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts are famous for forts and khillas, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Karimangar and Nizamabad districts have historic temples.
Adilabad and Khammam districts were the centre of natural habitations which if developed can attract tourists. Karimnagar and Warangal districts also have famous religious places.
Officials said that Gadwal kota in Gadwal municipality, Raja palace in Kollapur and Venkateswara Swamy temple and Jahangir peer darga in Shadnagar in Mahabunagar district would get a face lift soon.
Bhongir fort in Bhongir municipality, Khilla gutta in Devarakonda in Nalgonda district, Khila fort at Jagityal in Karimangar district, Anantagiri hills in Vikarabad and Khammam fort in under Khammam Municipal Corporation would be promoted as centre of adventure tourism.
Koilsagar dam and Jurala project ( Mahabubnagar), Manjeera dam and crocodile ponds ( Medak) Pochampad, Nizam Sagar and Ali Sagar projects in Nizamabad, Madhira tank bund in Khammam and Manair dam under Karimangar corporation would be promoted as holiday spots.
Nirmal paintings in Nirmal municipality in Adilabad and Metpalli khadi bhandar in Metpalli and would be the centre of cultural tourism. Officials told the Hans India that plans are afoot to create a tourism circuit connecting all the important historical and tourist places with the newly identified tourism spots and provide required facilities to the visitors.
Apart from the state budget, officials said the Centre has been requested to earmark funds for the promotion of tourism industry which not only help to increase revenues but also create employment for the youth in the urban areas.
