The Hyderabad City Police on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIT Hyderabad for collaboration in the areas of technology to enhance the safety and security of the citizens of Hyderabad.

​Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIT Hyderabad for collaboration in the areas of technology to enhance the safety and security of the citizens of Hyderabad.

IIT Hyderabad Director UB Desai and City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy exchanged the MoU at the IIT Hyderabad campus in the presence of other senior police officials and IIT faculty.

The collaboration looks to provide technology intervention deliverables based on Video and Data streams from various sources across locations as per the needs of the police,

seamless integration and inter-operability of deliverables with other technology solution stacks, development of extended solutions over the existing third party solutions stack with added requirements to ensure a comprehensive solution and building the capacity to maintain and migrate to newer third party solution versions.

Providing a comprehensive search engine to get exact results from single or multiple video streams and knitting the results from multiple sources of search in the order of its pre-defined attributes such as date, time stamp and multiple routes, are also the objectives of the MoU.

Technological help in establishing Integrated Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) to enhance the value proposition to the citizens, to search for live video streams gathered from multiple sources, enhancement of recorded video image quality for facial recognition,

data analysis based on the evidences collected at incident location, data mining from multiple sources and building traffic management applications, are also among the services which will be provided by the IIT.

The officials opined that the collaboration would definitely improve the standards of policing with the use of high-end technologies supported by research, innovation and expertise of IIT Hyderabad.

The IIT would in turn benefit from utilizing the facilities, infrastructure and data available with the police department for their research and innovation.
