Hyderabad: The Telangana government is contemplating to christen the proposed districts after iconic personalities from the state and those who are well known in the fields of arts and culture besides some historical places.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has recently announced that 14 or 15 new districts would be carved out from the existing 10 districts which would become functional by August 15 or by Dasara in October this year.

KCR had already announced that one of the new districts would be named after Telangana ideologue Professor K Jayashankar. Now the government has prepared a list of famous people, including Komaram Bheem, a tribal leader who fought against the Asaf Jahi Dynasty for the liberation of Hyderabad.

The other iconic names being considered are Chakali Ailamma, Sardar Papanna, Kaloji Narayana Rao, Dasaradhi Krishnamacharyulu , Bammera Potana and Kancherla Gopanna (Bhakta Ramadasu).

Noted rulers in the Kakatiya dynasty Rudramadevi and Prataparudra, former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and former President of India Zakir Hussan’s names also figured in the list.

Likewise, historical places – Bhadrachalam (temple town of Rama in Khammam district), Yadadri (temple town of Laxminarasimha swami in Nalgonda), Vemulawada (Raja Rajeswara Swamy temple in Karimangar) Charminar and Golkonda fort (Hyderabad) and Nirmal (famous for handicrafts and paintings in Adilabad district) are also being considered as names of the new districts, the sources said.
