Telangana Formation Day festivities to reach Himalayan heights
The team got the approval from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi. All the team members are mountaineers from Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda. They recently underwent for a rigorous 10-day condition camp at Araku of Visakhapatnam in AP to withstand the abnormal weather conditions and to overcome other problems during their expedition.
Nalgonda: A 10-member adventure team, the sons of Telangana soil, have knotted their trekking shoe laces to celebrate Telangana Formation Day (June 2) on the Himalayan Mountains. The team, under the leadership of Adventure Club of Telangana State (ACTS) founder-member Ranga Rao, got permission for the pre -Everest Mountaineering expedition to Mt Indrasan, Mt Norbu and Mt Deo Tibba – 6,220 metres, 5,226metres and 6,001 metres respectively from sea level - from May 16 to June 16.
The team got the approval from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi. All the team members are mountaineers from Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda. They recently underwent for a rigorous 10-day condition camp at Araku of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to withstand the abnormal weather conditions and to overcome other problems during their expedition.
As part of the training, the organisers focused mainly on stamina building at Katika Peak and trekking practice on Coffee plantation, causality lifting to base camp and climbing the Katika peak with the help of a fixed rope for 1,300 feet at 90 degrees temperature. The team will leave for New Delhi on May 19 by train from Secunderabad.
They will stay for the night on May 20 at Indian Mountaineering Foundation and will collect required equipment. Later they will leave for Manali of Himachal Pradesh by bus and will spend the night at Manali. After getting clearance from local authorities, they will go to Jagatsukh and finally will start the expedition on the morning of May 23.
According to Rama Rao, the leader of the expedition and ex-officio member of IMF informed that their team is planning to trek eight hours per day to complete the task as per the schedule. If everything goes well, then they will reach Mt Indrasan on June 2, where they are planning to celebrate the Telangana Formation Day on a grant note.
If their plan doesn’t work out due to bad weather, then the team has planned to organise the State formation day at Mt Deo Tibba Peak, which is 6,001 metres from sea level. He said that they will hoist the national and Telangana flags on all the three mountain peaks which they will cover during the expedition.
They are planning to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and central ministers during their return journey and brief them about their expedition. After their return to the State on June 16, they wanted to meet Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to inform him of celebrating the day on the mountain peaks.
For the second time the Adventure Club of Telangana is going to celebrate the State Formation Day on Himalayan Mountain, expedition leader Rama Rao said. Last year, the first State Formation Day celebrations were organised by the club team members at Himalayan Stok Kangri Peak in Ladakh.
One of the team members, Arkapally Satyanarayana, native of Tirumalagiri village of Papally mandal in Nalgonda district, is studying MBA (Tourism) at MG University. He was one of the member of water raffling team of the University which created record and was selected for Himalayan Mountains expedition team.
He thanked Rama Rao, the founder-member and Director of Adventure Club of Telangana, for encouraging and giving him a place in the expedition team. He also thanked District SP Vikram Jeet Duggal for providing financial assistance of Rs 50,000 from the department.
