As the counting of votes for the Palair by-elections began on Thursday morning, the ruling TRS party is learnt to be ahead of its opponent Congress.

As the counting is currently in progress, at the end of four rounds of counting, TRS's Tummala Nageshwara Rao garnered over 16,400 votes and a lead over Congress party's candidate Sucharita Reddy who is the wife of the late Ramreddy Venkat Reddy.

TRS who broke the tradition of contesting in the by-elections of leaving the seat to the kin of the deceased MLA or MP, fielded Tummala Nageshwara Rao against the widow of Venkat Reddy while TDP and BJP extended support to Congress. A total of 18 rounds of counting would take place and the result would be declared by the evening.
