Hyderabad: The third special meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will be held on Tuesday at 11 am in the Council Hall of the head office to elect five co-opted members having special knowledge or experience in municipal administration.

Of them, two members will be elected from the Minority communities and one of them should be a member of the Corporation.
The second special meeting was postponed on April 7 date due to lack of quorum.

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan postponed the meeting after waiting for half-an-hour for members to turn up at around 11 30 am. Only 27 members attended the meeting.

A senior GHMC official explained that the minimum quorum required to hold the election is 108. Five members would be co-opted into the council. Two Minority members would be elected by the corporators and ex-officio members by a voice vote. Of the two ex-officio members, one is a man and another is a woman.

The official said that the GHMC had received as many as 104 applications from the aspirants and another special meeting would be held in this regard. The co-opted members would have status equal to that of elected corporators.

According to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti sources, the ruling party had resolved its differences with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) over electing a co-option member.

They said that the TRS had agreed to elect a person from the AIMIM party. The TRS decided to elect the co-option member from Christian community under the Minority quota.
