Hyderabad: The main criteria for carving out new districts in Telangana is to see that they are endowed with resources to become "centres of growth engines". Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is learnt to have directed the officials to take "growth potential" as one of the main criteria in dividing the existing districts.
- Govt is preparing "ambitious plans" for establishment of industry hubs, IT and textile parks, horticulture centres, edn hubs, etc in every new district
- Depending on the availability of natural resources, infrastructure would be developed in each district
Besides administrative convenience, the government is preparing "ambitious plans" like establishment of industry hubs, IT and textile parks, horticulture centres and food processing and education hubs would come up in every new district. Depending on the availability of natural resources, infrastructure would be developed in each district with the aim of fulfilling the development agenda.
“Apart from the creation of boundaries, new mandals, new revenue divisions and establishment of government offices are other important issues to be studied in detail by the District Collectors as instructed by the Chief Minister in the recent meeting," a senior official of the State Revenue department told The Hans India.
For instance, industry zones would be created in mineral-rich areas like Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam in Khammam district and natural resources-rich Macherial in Adilabad district. Jagtial in Karimnagar district and some areas of Nizamabad district are the centres of commercial crop productions where the scope for the establishment of food processing industries was high.
Since Jangaon in Warangal district is close to Hyderabad, IT industry would be promoted in the newly-proposed districts here, he added. The official said that on the instructions of the Chief Minister, all the departments in coordination with District Collectors would take up the big task of finding out the growth potential in every proposed new district. “Government is committed to promote development of all existing and new districts equally, following rising demands for new districts from political parties and social organizations.
The scientific study taken up by the government would also address the backwardness of existing districts by adding some naturally-rich and industrial zones in them," the official added. "Equal distribution of resources between the districts categorised as backward and advanced would address all the issues like unemployment, industrial development and educational facilities,” the official said, adding that the scientific study would be completed by August.
The government is planning to bring the new districts into existence tentatively by Dasara in October this year. About 14 to 15 new districts would be created in addition to the existing 10 districts.
