Officials’ indifference drives 3 women to attempt suicide

Nalgonda: Dispirited with the officials turning blind eye to their repeated appeals to solve their land issue, three women attempted suicide at Nalgonda collectorate on Monday.

Three women – Chandra Lakshammam, Pilli Peeramma and Radhika – have lost 9.8 acres of patta agricultural land during the revival and strengthening of water body bund located adjacent to their land, under Mission Kakatiya last year at Tirumalagiri of Halia mandal.

The three women have appealed the mandal and division level officials for justice, who never even gave a proper reply to the victims. The trio gave a representation to the District Collector, requesting him to solve their problem. Responding to their appeal, the Collector directed the RDO to look into the matter. The issue once again came to Halia tahsildar. The women alleged that the tahsildar mocked at their efforts.

On Monday, the three women came to the Nalgonda collectorate to give a complaint against the official, who has been neglecting in resolving their problem.

But the Collector was not available, who was out of city on other work. They waited till afternoon to meet any top official. At about 3 pm, they observed Joint Collector Satyanarayana coming to the Collectorate and suddenly shouted ‘Jai Telangana’, poured petrol on their bodies and tried to put themselves on fire.

Other people, who were present there, prevented their effort. Meanwhile, the JC enquired them about their problem. After listening the women’s version, JC Satyanarayana ordered Miryalaguda RDO Kishan Rao to look into the matter seriously and settle the dispute in an amicable way.
