Warangal: Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari has expressed serious displeasure over education scenario in agency villages in the district. Referring to the past record of irregular attendance of teachers at government schools in the agency area, he stressed on the need for urgent correctional measures.

The teachers were more focused on union activities than imparting quality education to the students, he said.

The Deputy CM has on Wednesday chaired general body meeting of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) at Eturnagaram. He reviewed progress of education, health, engineering and forest departments.

He asked District Collector V Karuna, ITDA project officer D Amoy Kumar and education department to lay focus for the next three months to improve the situation. After the stipulated time a special meeting would be held to review the progress of government schools.

Education in agency area was neglected for the past several years, Srihari said and sought cooperation from parents to maintain standards in the schools.

He asked officials and public representatives to submit a report on requirements like toilets, drinking water and others at the schools and promised releasing the funds.

Srihari expressed satisfaction over health facilities in the agency area. There was need to setup a 50-bed referral hospital at Eturnagaram, he said and asked the authorities to submit proposals to the government in that regard.

Care should be taken to see that child deliveries take place in government hospitals and vacant doctor posts in the agency area should be filled up. Officials and public representatives should work with coordination in improving education and health services in the agency villages, he pointed out.

Reviewing progress of forest department, Srihari told the officials to act against those encroached large extent of forest lands in the name of podu cultivation after 2005. The revenue and forest officials should form joint committees to remove and check the illegal occupations.

All the pending engineering works should be completed at the earliest time, the Deputy CM said.

Tribal Welfare Minister A Chandulal said efforts were being made to improved roads in agency, along with construction of community halls for tribals at mandal headquarters. Girijan Bhavan would be built at district headquarters.

Collector Karuna said they have sent proposal worth Rs 3 crore to the government for the improvement of the facilities in the tribal welfare hostels and it was planned to plant 1 lakh saplings each at Medaram, Laknavaram and Pakala Lake.
