Mancherial (Adilabad): Several women in Naspur, Srirampur and other areas of the coal belt have started running small eateries to augment their family income. The items available at the outlets run from 6 to 11 pm every day include chapattis, jowar rotis, broth and vegetable curries. The outlets have become an instant hit among Singareni workers and employees as the prices of are reasonable.

Chapatti is priced at Rs 5 and a glass of broth costs Rs 10. On an average, each outlet earns Rs 500 or a little more. It’s a happy situation for both consumers and vendors. While consumers are able to save money, women are earning a good income by utilising their free time in a productive manner. Widows and single women are also running such outlets for their livelihood.

Speaking to The Hans India, a woman said ``I set up the outlet after the death of my husband recently. I am able feed and clothe my family of two young daughters and a son with the income earned from the outlet without depending on others.’’ Welcoming the new trend, Ramesh, a local resident, said ``Women need to be encouraged in their endeavor to achieve economic empowerment. It also helps improve the living standards of middle income groups.’’
